In the early 1800's, swimming was known as bathing. Swimming started to grow in popularity and became a great recreational activity in the United States. Profitable coastal businesses helped attract people from inland cities to the beach to escape the summer heat.
As swimming grew in popularity, the cases of swimmers in trouble in the Water grew. Water in all its glory can also be fatal. Many people do not know how to swim and it is really a must to have a Lifeguard on duty. The roots of Lifeguarding in the United States started in the late 1930s.
Early types of Lifeguard Equipment were row boats, paddle boards and throw lines. There were also lifelines installed within beaches but proved ineffective. Lifeguard Equipment grew from the increased numbers of people dying from drowning.
After the Second World War, American citizens had a high demand for State Parks such as beaches. There have been many first class facilities which offer the best beaches. As beaches tend to be dangerous, the demand for Lifeguard services has increased. Eventually parks could create their own Lifeguard service.
Lifeguards have used many different types of Lifeguard Equipment till now. With many responsibilities to attend to, there have been many types of Equipment designed solely for their field of work. There are rescue aids, First Aid kits, communication kits, and transportation vehicles.
Lifeguards have many different responsibilities they perform in their daily duties. The most important duty is to keep an eye out for swimmers that are in trouble.
The sole responsibilities of lifesavers on patrol are to maintain concentrated observation of their area. Next is to supervise the use of other types of Water Equipment such as slides. Next they are needed to check the Equipment to carry out rescue duties and employ emergency procedures when needed. Also, they must give immediate First Aid in the event of incidents. Lastly, they communicate with people on their patrol site to fulfill their tasks.
The modern day lifesavers can be employed in many different types of Water resorts. Their first areas are the beach, followed by inland bodies of Water, swimming pools such as a Water park, an ocean lagoon or tidal pool and lastly, the ocean. A modern Lifeguard can use Lifeguard chairs. Lifeguard chairs are portable and are positioned on chair towers and have an optimum viewing position of the bathing area.
Lifeguarding skills vary from location to location whether it is at the public beach or at a swimming pool.
There are many variations of lifesavers and their duties all over the world. Today there are Lifeguard competitions in which helps these individuals maintain their Lifeguarding skills and knowledge, the purpose of the said activity is to encourage training.
With the modern emergency service worker having much iterations, it is always a great job for anybody to rescue and save lives. They are the modern day heroes in which makes swimming the beaches and other Water recreation sites safe and enjoyable.
