CARLSBAD, CA – (June, 2012) – Original Watermen, a nationally recognized supply leader for lifeguard and watermen professionals, recently announced the newest member of their team, true waterman John Silver.
Silver, 59, has spent most of his life in the water, winning hundreds of surf trophies over the last couple of decades. Silver's list of accomplishments dates back to the ‘70s, placing twice at the US Championships. More recently, Silver was named the US Champion for his age division in 2009, 2008 and 2007. In 2008 and 2007, he was also named the West Coast Champion, as well as the NSSA Champion on 2001.
A San Diego County local, Silver's love for the water has followed him all his life through generations of watermen, stemming with his grandfather. His grandfather won a bronze medal in the 1924 Olympics with teammates and legends Johnny Weissmuller and Duke Kahanamoku.

Now, Silver feels he is surfing better than ever before on a 5'4" signature model Rusty Surfboard, appropriately named the "Silver Bullet." He is also sponsored by Future Fins, US Blanks, Carlsbad Pipeline and Hawaiian Mudpies.

In 2011, Original Watermen tripled sales in retail and mail-order with its surf-inspired clothing and expects major growth in all areas of the company for the upcoming year. In the past year, the company also signed several local, Southern California surfers to their own Original Watermen Surf Team and sponsors the Carlsbad Surf Team.
Like so many great things in the ‘80s, Original Watermen started in the back of a VW bus. Surfer and lifeguard, Ken Miller and future wife Jen, began making and selling water trunks. The first customers were Carlsbad, CA locals and eventually the State of California lifeguards signed up for 36 red shorts. Since those early days, Original Watermen has evolved and grown, now outfitting over 1,900 organizations from local and state agency lifeguards and fire fighters to military Special Forces.
