Popular Local Lifeguard, Surf Company Sees Major Revenue Growth in 2011, Expects Trend to Continue in 2012

Original Watermen expects retail sales to double in 2012

CARLSBAD, CA – (December 27, 2011) – Original Watermen, a nationally recognized supplier for lifeguard professionals, saw a 34% total revenue increase in 2011, adding Miami Beach Patrol, Jones Beach State Park NY, Long Beach NY Beach Patrol, City of Tampa and Los Angles County Castaic Lake Lifeguards to their growing list of clients.

Among other new clients are the cities of Austin, TX, Denver, CO and Overland Park, KS. The company also signed contracts with multiple Military, Seal Team and Coast Guard agencies across the country.

In 2011, Original Watermen tripled sales in retail and mail-order with its surf-inspired clothing and expects major growth in all areas of the company for the upcoming year. Original Watermen, Inc. owns the trademarks Original Watermen, Watermen, Waterman and Earn Your Salt. “Because the brand is just now being discovered, Watermen is a hot sale in the grom market,” said Ken Miller, founder. “We have had major growth in all areas across the board in both the lifeguard industry and the mail-order/retail Watermen market.”

With the success of the Original Watermen lifeguard brand under their belt, the company is experiencing three-fold growth in retail and web traffic. Currently, the line consists of retail tees, boardshorts, hats, stickers and sunscreen with new expansion expected mid-2012.

In the past year, the company also signed several hot, local surfers to their own Original Watermen Surf and Watermen Team. Original Watermen sponsors the Carlsbad Surf Team and services Encinitas, San Diego, Oceanside and California State Park Junior Guard agencies with boardshorts and other items needed to outfit lifeguards agencies up and down the east and west coasts.

Like so many great things in the ‘80s, Original Watermen started in the back of a VW bus. Surfer and lifeguard, Ken Miller and future wife Jen, began making and selling water trunks. The first customers were Carlsbad, CA locals and eventually the State of California lifeguards signed up for 36 red shorts. Since those early days, Original Watermen has evolved and grown, now outfitting over 1,900 organizations from local and state agency lifeguards and fire fighters to military Special Forces. Original Watermen, as a company, was created with a solitary vision: provide the best quality, fit, and performance in every garment.
