QUALITIES TO LOOK FOR IN AN EMS BAG

Are you shopping for EMS Medical Bags? Or maybe just looking around and doing some research? In this blog, we wanted to provide a brief overview of the type of EMS bags available by Kemp USA and their purpose, function, and design.

First, identify how this bag will be used. If you are simply looking for a general first aid medical bag for a day camp or a school, or a public facility that requires an onsite medical bag that is used occasionally then jump to this section.  If you are a professional rescuer, Emergency Medical Responder, Emergency Medical Technician, Firefighter, or Paramedic that needs a medical bag to be used on a regular daily basis then please read on.
Second, consider if you need to store any special items such as an oxygen tank, airway intubation, medications, IV catheters, needles, and syringes. Staying organized is extremely important for rescue professionals so make sure you compartmentalize your first aid items and life-saving equipment into the right categories.

EFFICIENCY

Does it carry well and is it easy to open and access? If you are in a rush for an urgent need, you do not want a bag that is difficult to carry around or one that has small cheap zipper pulls. You also want a bag you can sling over your shoulder in case you need to free up a hand for a second.

ORGANIZATION

Are the pockets easy to identify and access? Are there enough pockets, or maybe too many pockets? Does the main compartment have inner color-coded pouches?

RIGIDITY

You don’t want a bag that’s floppy and closes up on you every time you pull something out of the bag. A bag that opens well and maintains its structure will work better and be less frustrating.

DURABILITY

You want your bag to last and withstand a beating. We use 2 types of exterior materials on our bags; Denier Nylon and Fluid-Resistant Tarpaulin. Our standard bags use a 600 D nylon fabric, whereas our premium bags have denier nylon that is 2.75 times thicker at 1680 D. Lookup “denier nylon fabric grades” to research different fabric densities. We also use metal hardware for zippers, D hooks, and clips for shoulder straps. Kemp USA uses bar-tacking stitching at stress points.

VISIBILITY

Having an EMS bag that is highly visible is part of emergency scene safety training. It is important your bag can easily be distinguished and set apart in the midst of a potentially chaotic moment.

EMS BAGS FOR EMRs, EMTs & PARAMEDICS

These bags are designed for everyday rescue professionals and for high-traffic use. Emergency Medical Responders (EMRs), Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), and paramedics can all benefit from these bags. They are designed to be efficient, keep you organized, and hold up over the years. “Designed with the user in mind” by Kemp USA. We recommend these bags for BLS or ALS treatment (Basic / Advanced Life Support), which requires items for mechanical breathing (ventilation), CPR, AED, tube feeding (for hydration), kidney dialysis, and more. Depending on your budget Kemp USA carries a standard and premium version in some situations.

FUN FACT:
Sometimes when 911 is called for a medical emergency the firetruck shows up! Kind of odd isn’t it? Well, take heart, the firemen are trained medical lifesavers too! The people on the fire truck are also paramedics, they also carry the same ALS (Advanced Life Support) equipment as an ambulance.
