Original Watermen’s lifeguard clothing idea started in the 80’s with lifeguard Boardshorts being sold, out of VW camper van, to local lifeguards and watermen in Carlsbad, California, and quickly grew to suiting the State of California Lifeguards. Now, our Boardshorts line outfits over 2000 lifeguard agencies with a full line of not just Boardshorts, but gear and equipment that are used by a majority of beach and public municipalities across the United States.

Our lifeguard clothing is specifically inspired by all the things that make watermen, Watermen. It takes a more than a lifetime to Earn Your Salt, and we strive to represent that theme in the artwork featured on our tees and hoodies. Our classic tees aim to portray the statuses of legendary watermen like Duke Kahanamoku and Eddie Aikau, and give artistic testament to these humble legends whom Earned Their Salt. And of course, in the spirit of Earning Your Salt, we must pay tribute to the God of the Sea himself, King Neptune, depicted on tees and hoodies. Another popular design of ours is the “Tools of the Trade” tee, which illustrates some of the most important weapons in a waterman’s arsenal.
