What Swimwear is required for Lifeguarding?
Depending on your Agency or Employer, your Approved Lifeguard Swimwear & Swimsuits will vary. Most employers require a red or navy uniform consisting of shorts, and or swimwear such as a one piece bathing suit or two piece bikini. Standard accepted gear usually requires a visible ‘GUARD+’ or ‘LIFEGUARD’ logo clearly placed on the chest of all swimsuits and on the leg of shorts. Additional lifeguard apparel includes t-shirts, hats, and outerwear such as sweatshirts or sweatpants. In summary, most lifeguard jobs require the following items:
Swimwear and apparel in the color Red, Navy, Royal, or Black (depending on your Agency, Pool, or Employer)
GUARD+ or LIFEGUARD logo clearly displayed on chest of swimsuits or shirts, and leg of shorts.
Additional Equipment such as hip pack, CPR mask, whistle, etc

Men’s Lifeguard Shorts & Swimsuit Sizes: Find the perfect fit.
When it comes to Men’s Lifeguard Shorts & Swimsuit sizes, not all styles and brands fit the same. Each pair of shorts, trunks, or boardshorts on the market, is usually manufactured with different fabric, varying lengths, and styles. However, we are here to guide you through the Watermen Brand sizing for Men’s Lifeguard Shorts. As a general rule of thumb, there are two classifications: Elastic Waist Shorts & Fixed Waist Shorts. Elastic waist allows for a slight margin of error when choosing your size, due to the ability of the waistline to expand or contract to fit your waist size, whereas the ‘Fixed Waist’ shorts are less forgiving, and require accurate measurements to provide a snug fit, especially in the water. So, we begin with the most important measurement; your waist size.

Men’s Lifeguard Trunks aka ‘Elastic Waist’ Shorts
To find the perfect fit for our Watermen Brand Lifeguard trunks, we recommend consulting our Sizing Chart. All of our elastic waist Lifeguard Trunks are true to size, offering an ability to size down for a more streamlined, tight fit, or size up for larger legs or a more relaxed, looser fit. Each pair of trunks has a different inseam length, offering multiple styles for all. The elastic waistband allows a secure and comfortable fit and drawcord allows cinching to provide the ultimate snug fit. Watermen Brand Lifeguard boardshorts are designed to endure the elements, and last through the seasons. We specifically manufacture our boardshorts with extremely durable fabric, because we know what it takes to claim ‘Quality over everything else’. This enhanced durability allows for the boardshorts to fit perfect from the day you by them, to the day you retire them. Although the fabric may stretch to allow an increased range of mobility, the waistband should never stretch out. We cannot emphasize our slogan enough: Made for Lifeguards, by Lifeguards. Our business was built on this, and after 3 decades in the game, we are still striving to create an even more durable, flexible, and functional pair of lifeguard shorts. Truth be told, it’s getting hard and harder to ‘one-up’ ourselves.
Regarding boardshorts, we recommend taking a look at our sizing chart to ensure your waist measurement is accurate. All boardshort sizes are based on waist measurements and run true to size. We are here to guide you through our Women’s Lifeguard Swimsuit Sizes. Every suit on the market is cut differently and made from different materials, so we rely on a few basic measurements to dial in the perfect fit. With all swimsuits, it is best to keep in mind the intended use of the suit. If you are buying a swimsuit to endure swimming, running, or other water sports; it is best to stay true to size to ensure a snug fit. If the swimsuit is for other purposes like lounging, or casual pool use; we recommend sizing up for a more relaxed fit.

First we will begin with the Women’s One-Piece Lifeguard Swimsuits, which are usually the most difficult, due to varying torso, bust, and waist size.
Women’s One-Piece Lifeguard Swimsuit Sizes
Our ultra-durable, double layered fabric does not stretch much over time, which allows for a lifelong supporting and sculpting fit. Sizes are based on chest measurements and run true to size for slim or smaller waists and bust. We recommend that you DO NOT size down and expect the suit to stretch after a few uses. A general recommendation is to size up for in between sizes and we also recommend sizing up for those with larger measurements.
Similar to our One-Piece Swimsuits, all Watermen two-piece swimsuits and bikini tops are made with our ultra-durable double layered fabric, which does not stretch out much over time, allowing for a lifelong supporting and sculpting fit. We recommend that you DO NOT size down and expect the suit to stretch after a few uses. Sizes are based on traditional Women’s sizing: XS = chest size 32, SM = chest size 34, MD = chest size 36, LG = chest size 38, XL= chest size 40, and so on (see sizing chart below).
Once again, we have chosen an extra-durable Polyester fabric for our suits, which does not stretch out over time. We recommend that you DO NOT size down and expect the suit to stretch after a few uses. Sizes are based on traditional Women’s sizing: XS = size 2, SM = size 4, MD = size 6, LG = size 8, XL= size 10, and so on (see sizing chart below). In-between sizes should size down for a tight fit for swimming, running, or aquatic sports- and size up for true to size, comfortable fit.
