Original Watermen to Sponsor Julia Garcia in Paddleboard World Championships

Original Watermen will be backing Julia Garcia, winner of last year's two-person open women's paddleboard relay, at this year's Molokai-2-Oahu World Paddleboard Championships.

March 10 marked the start of registration for the 2015 Molokai-2-Oahu Paddleboard World Championships (M2O), presented by Kona Longboard Island Lager. Registering for the second time in two years will be Julia Garcia, a winner from last year's M2O race. Garcia and her partner, Aimee Spector, came in first place in the two-person open women's prone paddle board relay. Original Watermen, an online retailer of quality swim and surf gear, will be sponsoring Garcia as she looks to compete in what will likely be the biggest M2O race in its 19 years of existence.

The M2O Paddleboard World Championships is an open-ocean endurance challenge where solo and team competitors alike will compete in either the stand-up (SUP) or prone divisions. Only stock boards are allowed in the two-person team competition, but stock 12 foot boards and unlimited boards 14 feet and longer are allowed in solo and three-person team races. In total approximately 250 people will be participating in the race, which is set to take place July 26, 2015, starting on Kaluakoi Beach and finishing in Maunalua Bay, located on the south shore of Oahu. M2O began in 1997 as a grassroots challenge for watermen and lifeguards of Oahu, meant to challenge every competitors mental and physical endurance. Each finisher is able to experience an individual championship.

"It's the most amazing experience I've ever had and I'm so excited to be able to go back and give the solo a shot," Garcia said about last year's M2O race.
